We have previously covered the case of Victorino Chua who was convicted in May 2015 of two counts of murder, as well as other charges, before being sentenced to life with a minimum term of 35 years.

On 18th June 2015 it was announced that Mr Chua had ‘launched’ and appeal. This does not mean that he will not automatically get a full appeal – an overview of the process is here.

It is very difficult to succeed in an appeal, particularly in relation to a murder. The grounds of the appeal have not been made public, but will probably be alleging some legal misdirection by the Judge.

We will keep an eye on this, and come back to it if it ends up in the Court of Appeal (either as a full appeal, or a renewed application).
