    Introduction

On 22nd August 2016 Chris Denning, the 75 year old former Radio 1 DJ, pleaded guilty to 21 sexual offences against children committed on 11 different boys between 1969 and 1986.

He denied 3 further charges which will not be pursued. The case has been adjourned until 6th October for sentence.

    Factual Background

As is often the case, there is not much detail publicly available. We know that Mr Denning is currently serving a sentence of 13 years having pleaded guilty to various child sex offences in 2014.

In the absence of details as to what the charges were, it is very hard to say what he will get.

    Sentencing Principles

We have a factsheet on how the Courts approach these offences, which often throw up complicated issues.

Coupled with this, there is the fact that Mr Denning is currently serving a prison sentence for similar offences. The exact way that this this will impact on how long the custodial sentence for this offence is will depend on the exact factual circumstances.
